Indian Troops seal Occupied Kashmir Capital, Srinagar and other major towns confining people to homes.
Srinagar, February 10 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have arrested over 500 people associated with the All Parties Hurriyet Conference and other Hurriyet organizations to prevent holding of anti-India protests in connection with the martyrdom anniversaries of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.
Almost all major towns and district headquarters remained closed, while traffic was off the road due to strict restrictions imposed by the authorities. However, people defying restrictions took to the streets in Bandipora, Gandarbal, Shopian and Sopore and held demonstrations. Several people were injured when police subjected them to brute force.
Over 500 including liberation leaders and activists remained lodged in different police stations. Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Zafar Akbar Butt were among those arrested.
On the other hand, Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Bilal Ghani Lone, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Altaf Ahmed Shah continued to remain under house detention, today.
The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement urged the international community and human rights bodies to impress upon India to return mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru from Delhi’s Tihar jail.
An Indian human rights body People’s Union for Civil Liberties in a statement in Jammu describing the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru as the most shameful act of the Indian government said that Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and the then Home Secretary R K Singh masterminded the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru.
Peoples Political Front Patron, Fazl-e-Haq Qurashi and Tehreek-e-Khawateen Chairperson, Zamurda Habib in their separate statements condemned sexual harassment of a lady doctor by a former puppet minister saying that the incident had shocked the people in the territory.
In New Delhi, the committee for the Release of Political Prisoners held a seminar and a subsequent sit-in outside the Indian Supreme Court in New Delhi. The Kashmiri students raised pro-freedom slogans, on the occasion. The speakers including Professor Syed Abdur Rehman Gilani and Professor Jatinder Singh denounced the unilateral decisions of Indian courts against the Kashmiris.
